End-to-end walkthroughs for every part of the app — from opening your first pattern to exporting an annotated copy. Follow a sequence, top to bottom and you're done.
Open your first pattern
Get any PDF or copy-pasted pattern into the reader. No account required.
Open the Workspace menu
Head to trixistitches.com/workspace and click the ☰ menu button, top-left. Everything for bringing in a pattern lives under Connect a source / Import new Pattern.
Add your pattern
Click Import a Local PDF to pick a file from your device, or Paste pattern text to drop text into the box and hit Read it. Prefer the cloud? Sign in and connect Dropbox, Drive, or Ravelry under Connect a source (see the import guide below).
Wait for it to render
The reader lays out every page. Larger PDFs take a moment to load into the reader.
Start reading
Scroll through the pattern. Everything else in these guides builds on this view.
Read a pattern your way
Look up abbreviations, choose your formatting, take notes, drop a place marker, and count rows. All free — no account needed.
Look up abbreviations
The Abbreviations button underlines terms in the pattern — tap one to see what it means. Open the glossary with the Glossary button in the left bar to see every term in one place, with a Filter abbreviations… search box.
Make it comfortable to read
Toggle Line numbers on or off, resize the text with A− / A+, and switch the typeface from the font menu (Mono, Sans, Serif, Humanist, or System).
Take notes & drop a place marker
Tap a line to mark it as your current line, then hit the Note button in the left bar to attach a note to it. To bookmark an exact spot, press and hold a line — a place-marker pin drops where you held. Tap the needle to remove it.
Count your rows
Add a counter with + in the left bar. Tap it to add one, double-tap to subtract, triple-tap to reset, and hold to rename it. Counts save per pattern and come back when you reopen it.
Hands-free reading
Move through rows without putting your needles down. Tap a big button — or just talk to it. The screen stays awake while you work.
Turn it on
Tap the Hands-free button in the left bar (next to Glossary and Diagrams). A large control bar docks to the bottom of the screen with ◀ Prev and Next ▶ buttons. This part is free — no account needed.
Advance rows by tapping
Next ▶ jumps to the next instruction row (headings are skipped) and scrolls it to the centre; ◀ Prev steps back. Your place is saved as you go, so you can put the app down and pick up exactly where you left off. Tap ✕ to leave hands-free mode.
Or use your voice Pro
Tap Enable voice and allow microphone access. Then say “next” or “back” to move a row, “count” to add one to the highlighted counter, “repeat” to hear the current row again, and “stop” to pause listening. A red dot shows when it's listening, and the small i badge on the button pops up the full command list any time.
Built to not get in the way
Voice only ever moves one row at a time and can't delete or reset anything — if it isn't sure what you said, it does nothing rather than guess. The tap buttons always work, even in browsers without speech support, so a misheard word is never a problem.
Highlight your size Pro
Mark the size you're making and keep it lit through the whole pattern.
Open the "Your size" panel
With a pattern loaded, the Your size panel sits just above the reader. It detects the sizes in the pattern and lists them as buttons.
Pick your size
Tap the size you're knitting or crocheting. TrixiStitches marks that number everywhere it appears — like running a highlighter down your column on paper.
It stays put
Scroll as far as you like; your size stays highlighted so you never lose which number is yours.
Pattern at a Glance
See a quick overview before you start — craft, sizes, gauge, materials, and abbreviations — free for everyone.
Open a pattern
The Pattern at a glance panel sits at the top of the reader and runs automatically when a pattern loads. It works entirely in your browser, free for everyone, with no AI and no network call.
Read the summary
You get a quick overview: craft, number of sizes, gauge, materials, and abbreviation count, pulled straight from the pattern text.
Your text stays private
Pattern text is only sent for analysis when this runs — and you can switch it off any time under Privacy settings in the menu.
Pattern Worksheet Ultimate
Turn a written pattern into a flat, tickable checklist — every row you'll work, in order, with its yarn color and running stitch count.
Open the worksheet
With a pattern loaded, click the Pattern Worksheet chip at the top of the reader, next to Abbreviations. The first time you open it for a pattern, the checklist is built right in your browser — no AI, no network, and the same pattern always produces the same worksheet.
Tick off rows as you knit
Each step is one worked row: a checkbox, the yarn color, and — at section ends — the stitch count you should have on your needles, straight from the pattern's own printed counts. Tick rows off as you go; the header keeps a running “12 of 144 rows done” tally. Ticks save per project, so the same pattern knit twice keeps two separate checklists.
Switch back to the pattern — same button
The Pattern Worksheet chip is a toggle: click it again to return to the normal pattern view. Nothing is lost either way — the pattern keeps your place, notes, and highlights, and the worksheet keeps your ticks. Flip between the two as often as you like; both swaps are instant.
Print it, or rebuild it
Print gives you a paper copy of the checklist to keep by your needles. Regenerate rebuilds the worksheet from the pattern text if you ever need a fresh one.
Works with written row-by-row patterns
The worksheet reads patterns written as numbered rows and section repeats — shawls and other flat pieces are ideal. Patterns without that structure (chart-only, worked in the round with per-size instructions, or “repeat until desired length”) can't be mapped into one honest checklist, so the worksheet says so instead of guessing.
Charts & diagrams
Pop out any diagram, and follow stitch charts row by row.
Detected automatically
When your PDF loads, TrixiStitches finds its charts and diagrams for you — no setup.
Pop out a diagram Free
Click the Diagrams button in the left bar to see them in a floating panel, then click one to open it full-screen. Step through with the arrows — no more pinch-zooming a tiny corner of the page.
Follow the row guide Pro
When a stitch chart is detected, the chart viewer appears below the reader. Turn on Row guide, then tap or drag to move the highlight to your current row; arrow keys nudge it and + / - resize it. If a pattern has several charts, each gets its own tab. Where you left the guide — and any rotation you set — is saved with the pattern and follows your account, so the chart reopens on your row on any device.
Knitting calculators Pro
Do the fiddly maths — increases, decreases, and gauge — right in the app.
Open the menu
Click the ☰ menu and find the Calculators section.
Pick a calculator
Increase evenly and Decrease evenly space shaping across a row for you; Gauge calculator converts your swatch into finished measurements.
Read off the answer
Enter your numbers and the calculator does the rest — no scrap paper needed.
Copy it into your notes
Click the result box to copy the answer to your clipboard — it flashes Copied! to confirm. Paste it straight into a project note or a note on the pattern line so the number's there when you need it.
Save patterns to your library Pro
Keep your patterns in one place and pick up on any device.
Sign in on a Pro plan
The My patterns button appears on the toolbar once you're signed in with a paid plan.
Your patterns collect there
Patterns you open while signed in are added to My patterns as a card grid with thumbnails, so you can jump back to any of them.
It syncs across devices
Your library and reading progress (size, counters, notes, place marker) follow you between mobile devices and your laptop. Only the title and your progress are stored — never the pattern text itself.
Track your projects
A make-along board for every project, from planning to finished. Free with any account.
Add a new project with a name and the details you care about — linked pattern, yarn, needle or hook size, gauge, notes, and start/finish dates.
Watch it move across the board
Projects sort into Planned, Work in progress, and Finished. The status follows your dates automatically: add a start date and it goes to work-in-progress; add a finish date and it's done.
Free gets 10
Free accounts hold up to 10 projects. Pro and Ultimate are unlimited.
Track your yarn stash Pro
Keep an inventory of the yarn you own so you always know what's on hand.
Open the stash
Signed in on a paid plan, click Yarn stash on the toolbar.
Add your yarn
Record each yarn — brand, colourway, weight, fibre, yardage, how much you have, and notes — so your whole stash is in one place.
Check before you start
Cross-reference a pattern's materials against your stash before buying more.
